I was going to search for info on anyone who had installed one on their 2000 4L but found the thread saying Search is unavailable.
Anybody got any feedback on the Volant system?
Thanx

We sell them on our site, too bad you got it from JCW, looks like you paid $25 too much!
At any rate, the volant intakes are pretty good, I actually like them better than K&N and other brands since they actually use a box around the filter, to keep all the hot air sealed out. They have top notch quality and performance, so I think you chose the right intake.
I thought I had read somewhere that the Volant was better since it was more of a "true" cold air intake, sounds like you agree with that.
I am actually getting it as a birthday present from my b/f, he wanted to buy chrome bed rails for the Ranger but I wanted a performance part. He had a coupon for $40 from JCW too so we got a good deal.
I'll bookmark your site for future reference.
Anyone here get exhaust pipe bent up as a mod to the air box? I see Harbor Freight sells a couple of pipe benders pretty cheap. Would need the bigger unit and smash the airbox side into an oblong shape with heat for most of these older Rangers. This for the rad support to box. My throttle body inlet pretty small, too so 3" pipe should work great for that. Maybe next Spring. No good kits for old trucks. Except the Neon goodie.
I have been running a Volant intake for over a year now with great results,i recently went to an AEM filter in it cause i started having oil problems with the maf sensor but after switching filters gas mileage is still up there and the power
level still seems to be up there.Im also running a throttle body spacer which is about as good as a paper weight , a gibson cat back system and a super chips programmer which is set on a 93 octane program that Doug made for me. and my 4.0 screams when i put my foot into it.when im responding to a fire or vehicle accident since im a vollie fire fighter and can use my extra power from time to time.ya the gas costs 15 cents a gallon more when i can find it. 93 is kinda scarce in sw missouri but 91 with some octane boost usually eliminates
any pinging.
I'll be adding some of the same mods you did too. Just starting with the CAI and when money allows adding the others.
We have a 98 Durango 5.9L with the K&N CAI, custom throttle body, Flowmaster cat back system and the Superchip tuner. I love the power in that. I know I won't get quite the same grunt from the Ranger but it'll be good for a 6 banger.
Vixen, you won't do better than a bamachips programer for your ranger, Doug knows how to squeeze every bit of power out of a ford engine. Alot of us use the bama, it's just plain awesome. Bama is the biggest bang for the buck you can get for your ranger. Bob Jusnes sells the bama a long with alot of other performance parts for your truck, with some bolton's and bama, these v6's can scream. You can check out all of Bob's performance parts at www.jusnesmodified.com, the prices are good as well. I personally perfer the AEM intake, but have heard nothing bad about volant, so your off to a good start.

All you have to do is let Doug know, and he can make you tunes for 91 octane, its just about as good as the 93, and you wont need to add any octane booster. Im pretty sure he wont charge you either, just let him know your situation!
my programmer that Doug made for me has a program for 87,91 and 93 octane levels. I just like the 93 setting cause it lets the timing advance a little futher and u can feel the difference between them.but the 2 stations around here that i could count on for 93 octane gas have gone back to 91 for the winter and they claim their distributors cant guarentee delivery of the 93 stuff, which sounds like bs cause i can go another 10 miles to the next town over and find it no problem.but i dont feel like driving cross missouri for gas so guess the programmer is going back to the 91 setting for a while, better being safe than sorry. Also noticed i have been running mobil 1 5w-30 and when it was cold outside i would get what seemed like a rod knock that would only last for a second or two then go away. Went back to motorcraft 5w-30 and the noise went away cause mobil wouldnt reply to my questions about the noise
If you have an 01 4.0, it may be the start of the famous timming chain rattle. I have used mobil 1 for years and love it, thats all thats been in my 4.0 since it's first oil change. I don't believe mobil 1 will cause your rods to knock.
yah it could be a timing chain rattle.but its a little disheartening to hear it with mobil 1 in the pan. Funny thing is that it doesnt do it if i put a synthetic blend in there.............this is one that has me fooled. And ya its a 01 4.0 with the 5spd auto
