I had my backup sensors fixed by my dealership last week and on the way out I filled up the truck at a gas station that I've never been to. On my way home I noticed that when the truck is in first gear it has a very quick hesitation. This only happens mid gear not when shifting. I thought maybe I filled up the tank with some bad gas. Well now I have a new tank of gas and the same thing is happening. It only happens once or twice a day and 99% of the time it happens when giving gas and the truck is in first very rarely second gear. To explain what it feels like it, it feels like the engine is getting starved of gas for a split second. Does any one have an idea what may be causing this? My next guess is a fuel filter but I would think it would be happening all the time and it would not be rare as its happening
If it's not the fuel filter, take the expy out on the highway and drive it real hard from a stop or slow speed. Maybe you can get an engine light and then a code. Could be a mis.
I had a similar problem and it turned out to be an intermittant miss due to a COP miss/short. I will bet you that it is a COP that is acting up. Unfortunately, if you're not getting a CEL (I didn't) there won't be a stored code. You'll have to take it to someone that has diagnostic equipment to determine which COP is acting up. How many miles do you have? If more than 60,000 you probably need to replace the plugs and the insulators anyway (I know Ford recommends 100,000 miles) but the COPs and insulators are very problematic on this engine. I've had to have 2 replaced within the first 70K.
