I originally posted this in the Aftermarket Parts forum, but got no responses there (maybe Super Duty folks don't frequent that forum) so I decided to repost it here. Hopefully, this will produce better results!
I purchased a set of clear side mirrir replacement lights from Recon, and the instructions state that the mirror cover must be removed in order to change out the bulb assembly. The instructions, however, are text only, with no illustrations to help in figuring out how to get the mirror covers off. I checked with my Ford dealer's body shop and all they could say was, "we've never been able to get the covers off without breaking the tabs", so they weren't a lot of help!
If anyone has mastered the technique and can pass along some tips (or, even better, diagrams or photos), I would greatly appreciate it, as I'm sure the Recon lights would look better on the truck than they do sitting in the box. I would rather avoid the $25 or so, each, price for the mirror covers, especially since I have already added chrome caps to them.

Well, I can kind of help you. I can only give you a person that has done it - 'CounterMaker'. His gallery link is below. You will have to talk to him somehow. And by the way, the Ford dealer has never been any help to me either!
CAN YOU HELP ME? I noticed in your pictures you have a 3rd mirror added on. Where did you get them at exactly? Lots of details please.
stevenn1 --- Thanks for directing me to CounterMaker. I'll try to get ahold of him.
The mirrors are C-Betr brand. ( www.c-betr.com ) I ordered them via their website. The only downside to them was that the mirrors that came with the kit were *cheap*, with distortion around the edges. I replaced them with a pair of high quality mirrors that I purchased at a truck stop, and now am really happy with the setup.
I think you can move the mirror glass all the way one direction and use a screwdriver to release the tabs. Then move the mirror all the way the other direction and release the other tabs. There are 2 on each side.
I just installed mine a week ago. moove the mirror all the way down find the two top tabs and push down and out, you may also have to pry from the outside also. I have plastic trim tools for this. then moove the mirror all the way out, the third tab is six inches up on the inside, this tab pushes up and out you may have to pry on the outside again. if the tabs are released dont worry the cover will pop off.
Thanks, cdkell and V10man. I'll give it a try when it's warm enough to work outside (this weekend, hopefully!). I'd just like to avoid busting a tab, as the mirror covers have chrome covers on them, which probably could not be removed to transfer to a new cover, so that would be additional expense.
