One of the 2 fittings that stick out from the firewall from the heatercore is cracked. It is causing a small leak from that hose. Is there any other fix besides replacing the entire heatercore. The dealer says its a 9 hour job and a local shop told me 5 1/2 hours. I cant do it by myself. bad back, so any info or help would be appreciated. Thanks
If you are sure it's the fitting, and not a crack in the hose, then you can try and repair it with some JB Weld if you have access to where it's cracked. Make sure it's completely dry before you apply the JB, let it set for the recommended time before attaching the hose. That might work. One thing that you DON'T want to do is use BARS leak or any of those other magic additives. They will just mess up the rest of your cooling system.
I will try that. I looked at a new heatercore at NAPA and it doesnt have any plastic ends. I dont know if what is cracked is a part of the core or a sleeve that fits over the heatercore lines. I will try a type of plasti weld and see what happens. Thanks for the reply.
Can you take the line off the other side of the core to try and determine if there is a plastic sleeve? You might want to verify if there is a sleeve before you apply any type of bonding adhesive. Hopefully, someone on this forum will know how the 01 heater core and lines are designed.
