how to make a website?
i want to have my own website (nothing to do with anything, just play around with it) and how does one go about having one?
i would like a www. whatever .com type, i know it costs money each month, but how to get started and what to do?

Cheap way.... www.godaddy.com
They have low cost packages, and you can get www.whateveraslongasitsavailable.com
There are others out there. Do a search for ISP host or web hosting solutions. Heck, you can go free if you want to go through yahoo or msn or some other web based email company. Of course it would be www.them.com/yourname.
Once you get signed up, they will have an interface to log into your website, and a way to upload your webpages (either from the GUI web based connection or via FTP).

Yahoo "Geocities" is a free 15mb website. But for a small payment, you can get more to do more.
Most of these free websites offer some kind of easy "website making" tools like pre-made templates and basic html tutorials Or you can test your html skills to make a website yourself using a testbed to preview your attempts.
While updating links for Runegame.com, last year, I used Geocities Free website to make my "admin" homepage in. Used it to improve my html skills after the forums were updated there. The vB 3 "default look" really clashed with the site's overall theme. Also to store any new links I found while doing some needed overhauling of some Community Links, Patches/Mods pages before sent off to the Rockstargames webtechs to put up in the website.
Just did not have the software in my computer to do this (i.e. "Dreamweaver") so, Geocities worked for me, at the time. Still does.
