i have an 84 f250 with the 6.9 and was wondering if anyone had ever attempted to rebuild the motor? any suggestions or books to look at? what about rebuild kits? does anyone offer them?
thanks,
Jamie
I found a good machine shop and ordered most of the parts through them, they had very good prices.
Most of the engine parts are Sealed Power.
The only thing that I used as a guide was the torque specs just to make sure I did not get them in the wrong place.
Same basic principal as a gas motor, tolerances are closer, everything weighs more and parts are more expensive though.
Where do you live?
Do you use a block heater?
How many miles on the engine you have now?
What is your intended use after the rebuild?
Are you trying to get more power or thinking about adding a turbo?
I did a lot of stuff not in the books on that engine.
i live in pa and i do use a block heater it gets pretty cold here in the winter. the motor has about 150000 miles on it but it uses a lot of oil and blows white smoke when it idels. i would like to just build it so i know everything is strong and sealed and so one day when i add a turbo it will be able to handle it
About 4000 dollars for parts and machine work.
I had a few extras at the machine shop so I could run high boost like the piston tops milled down to lower compression a bit.
I also had it bored to 30 over.
I am running 7.3 rockers.
IP and injectors are from a 94 7.3 turbo motor.
Aftermarket ATS turbo with a 3" outlet and exhaust.
ARP headstuds keep the heads in place.
Hypereutectic pistons whick are stock have better heat resistance so that is the way I went.
150,000 miles is not much, is your CDR working correctly?
Mine had 300,000 on it when I changed the engine.
