E fans

I have heard a lot of talk about e fans and how they help. I understand the concept and how it makes a difference freeing up power. Who has one and how do you feel about it?

If you are able to believe I am unbiased, then I'll tell you

I have been using efans on every truck I have, I have installed them on 4 04 up F150s and 6 rangers.

Its a mod that many people are scared of, and one that is disregarded a lot, but they do a WHOLE LOT for your truck. Since you said you understand the concept, i dont have to explain it to you.

Bottom line is, I consider it an essential mod on all of my trucks, and when a customer asks "what should I do next?" I always suggest the fans. After you get the fans on, and if you ever get underdrive pulleys, the install will go much smoother with all that extra room.

ok I have done research on the fans, do you have to change the pulleys at the same time or just take out the one that powers the fan? I am not familiar with how they work.

You have to leave the pulley on, because it also drives the water pump.

Sorry I have a different opinion about e-fans Bob, but there is little if any advantage, and they simply don't have the air flow of a conventional fan.

hi there, i might be able to help...

I have bobs fans and I love them, pretty simple install and i found a great location to mount the contollers, which isnt too hard to do, just gotta have a drill.

The fan is connected to the crankshaft, so the fan itself actually comes off in one BIG bolt. If u look down there, there are 4 nuts, and one big one(aobut 1 inch thick) and you take a fan wrench and you break that loose and the fan just unscrews from the rest of the assembly. So you never actually need to touch your pullies besides that one moment where you break it free. and thats super easy.

After u get the fan and shroud out, installing and wiring takes a few hours. Im running the duel 16 inch fans and they fit perfectly in place, I also used twice as many push throughs to mount them just becuase im a little rough and I like the peace of mind.

But yah, by the butt-o-meter, its pretty noticeable, where after u install them and set them to correct temps, you can honostly feel the difference in acceleration, its awesome.

I did the pully and efan swap at the same time since it was just good timeing so, yah...have fun with it and get them from bob, lowest price and best controller ive seen, ive gotten alot of compliments about his controllers from lightning members i hang out with.

you could also have them set so they are on while you are driving...

i have duel fans and only one ever kicks on, cause one fan is enough to cool it, i dont think my second has ever come on, and yes it is set correctly and my temp has never gone up.

But the main reason I got it, is not for power, but for mpg, which it does improve, you take that much weight off the crank and its going to help and it does.

Yeah mpg would be great. If I could save just 2 miles per gallon that is an extra 78 miles to tank which equals out to a return on investment of around 4 dollars everytime I fill up so after around 75 fill ups I will have it paid for. This is the reasoning i have to use to justify the cost of modding my truck as opposed to doing other things like saving the money

I was waiting for you Bob

As far as the airflow, maybe you forgot that the F150 uses 2 16" fans, which covers the radiator pretty well and puts out PLENTY of airflow. Our dual 14" kit has been cooling a roush F150 for quite some time now, without any problems, and our single 16"s have cooled quite a few EE blown 4.0 rangers.

As far as problems, any mod has its own problem, then again, so do fan clutches. There is always some risk, there is always someone with a bad experience as well, so dont take a few bad comments to be "the word" on efans, because plenty of people have had and are having great experiences with efans.

Hey Bob, want to buy a 65 122s?

Yeah noted. I guess you can never go wrong with good old mechanical fans.

I partially agree Bob!! As far as fan clutches failing they usually fail by locking up, causing the fan to run all the time....

Speaking of 122S's, check out the 122S wagon that was at the Ford exhibit at SEMA!! My first car was a 1964 122S Wagon!!! This car was a 4 door, and as you can see, they made a 2 door wagon out of it!!! Also, check out the Citroen!!

I have never been a fan of electric fans or pulley swaps on trucks. Leave that stuff for the light duty mustangs.
