why not....it works...i think atleast, and the bad effects of pullies can be countered with a optima battery, which should be used in any truck/car with a aftermarket sound or lighting system, so...i think its fine, it doesnt hurt the truck, it only helps.

the tuner and e-fans/pulleys are my next mod. I have to save a little money now. I've had good luck with everything I've done so far. I can't wait to fully unlock the 5.4 potential

Bob Ayers...

Curiosity got the best of me so I checked out the links you provided to support your opinion on e-fans...

One is about a mechanical failure, the other is about e-fans on an RX7...???

Oranges and apples...not really an accurate comparison.

My old 95 T-bird and my 04 Focus both come with e-fans from the factory, and there are countless other cars equipped the same way. They work just fine.

Any time rotating mass can be eliminated or reduced from an engine, the hp used to spin the fan becomes available, and by spinning the alternator, ect, a little slower, a little more hp is freed up.

A little here..a little there...plus a CAI, a cat-back and a chip or tuner...

Bada BOOM..!!!

Going from mechanical fan to e-fan is the same irregardless of the vehicle!!
Matter of fact, if there was going to be an improvement, there would be more improvement on the RX7 due to the higher RPMs the rotary engine turns!!!

As a thought, would you not negate the advantage of removing the mechanical fan by the increased load of the alternator when using an e-fan? It is just a question that came to mind, I am not pro or con on e-fans.(never really gave it much thought)

which is easily solved with a new alternator or a higher output battery such as a optima.

And the reason the rx7 gets better cooler might be also cause its mechanical fan his the potentional so spin so much faster, where as our low rpm motors bennifit more from the fans.

and i know it sound stupid, but when i installed mine, i felt a noticeable difference in power, my battery never discharges, and ive never popped up a code, which leads me to believe that everything is still getting enough power. This is with underdrive pullies, so if anything, my alternator should be struggling for life!....and yet... ive seen positive results hmmm, yah... mods arent for everyone, i do them cause i like to work on my truck, so fans for me were just another fun project to do.

TOTALLY WRONG!!!!!!!!

The alternator will work to satisfy the current demand from accessories,
which battery capacity has nothing to do with!!!! Increased battery capacity
comes into play during starting, or when the engine IS NOT running...

Check out this URL for a better understanding of automotive electrical systems...especially the 1st sentence in the 2nd paragraph:

"As long as the engine is running, all of the power for the accessories is delivered by the alternator."

but im sure the difference between the fan being taken off and extra amps being sucked away AT LEAST equals it self out, so that still with the alternator working slightly hard to provide ONE fan, because in my setup, the other never clicks on, and it doesn't click on while im driving either.

So...the only time it is working harder is when im idling and in traffic... which means, every other time i have the magical benefit's of having a giant weight taken off my engine! BAM!

and whatever you say, and i may be wrong in my understand of alternators, the fact is, efans give you a power and mpg increase, which is has been proven by dynos and just by keeping track of mpg every fill up.

So....it works, plain and simple, you may not like it, but it does, is it for everyone? no... but for the poeple that want to squeeze that extra bit out of there engine, its a good mod.

130 amp alternator. under normal load, you don't even come close to taxing that alternator out. I've had a winch and offroad lights going at the same time before and only had to run the motor at 1000 rpm to have sufficient power

these e-fans draw minimal load. the most you should ever notice them is when they kick on the battery meter should flicker momentarily.

the alternator drag theory is a good one, discussed using speculation and fuzzy math in the link Bob posted. The gains from removing the weight of the mechanical fan DO surpass the extra load on the alternator, but remember, that the efans are pretty much only on at idle, so the extra alternator drag doesnt matter. A mechanical fan, even if the clutch is working perfectly well, will still have some amount of drag, and weight, that when removed gives some benefits.

The RX7 link can speculate and calculate all it wants to, but our dyno tests have shown real power, and our customers report real MPG gains with the efans, which is why I support their use.

Can you post some of your dyno charts Bob???

Preferably, ones done independently, not from e-fan manufacturers.

Thanks!!

I dont have any on this computer, all was lost when I had a virus 7 months ago. I will talk to the other people who were at the dyno day to see if they still have copies.
