Poulsbo1,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.
Sounds to me like you both need to have a little more fuel added to the fire.
Turn the IP up another flat.
Power Stroke engines started at 225 HP in 94 and went up from there.
The 2003 7.3 with a manual transmission was rated at 275 HP.
What year is your friends Power Stroke?
I am running no muffler and 3" pipe about 5 feet long till it splits into two 3" stacks.
That helps with boost at lower RPM's since there is less exhaust restriction.
I would find out about adjusting the waste gate a couple pounds higher on the max boost. A stock 7.3 should be able to handle 14 PSI without any problems.
I don't know without pulling the tailpipe. I believe it is straight through because it is louder than my stock one and it came with my Banks Sidewinder kit.
Dave, how much noise would I create if I pulled the Banks muffler and inserted a straight pipe in place of it? My wife and I take LONG trips and I don't want to hear her gripe. Do you think that would help with the back press/additional boost?
I've seen a few Banks mufflers that were of the large offset variety. Not good for a turbo. If the in and out are inline with each other, it may be OK. They are a little loud without the muffler, but mainly on decel.
well I don't wanna get tag'd as trying to hauk something here.... feel free to email me.
it's the ole banks 1st gen square box. we had 12psi max out of it. it's about every nut and bolt.... you might want to replace the orings and things tho.
I know this post is really old, but do you still have this turbo and all the nuts and bolts!!!???

Not sure, but I think that one is long gone.
Have you looked in the classified's here on FTE?
I have not looked through them recently, but there were one or two systems there a while back.
