Question about marker lights for a 55 pickup. Just got the truck and it has after market tail lights (gonna change them soon). My question is this. The marker lights on the front of the truck do not come on UNLESS I have the turn signal on. There is an after market signalstat on the steering column. Are the marker lights supposed to light when I turn on the head lights, or just signal.
If you mean the parking lights, under the head lights on the front, they only come on when the switch is in the parking light posiyion or when the turn signal is on. They don't come on with the headlights. That is something that came along later, maybe late 60s or early 70s.
Yep those are the ones I was talking about. I call them parking lights as well, but was told by an older fella down the road when back in the 50's they were called marker lights.
Mine only come on when the signal is on. Gonna have to check and get them fixed to come on when switch is in parking light position.
Thanx
the bulbs are probably single filament, where as to have "parking/running" lites, along with turn signals, you need dual filament bulbs. my guess is who ever installed the aftermarket turn signal switch, toof the wire off the headlite switch (going to the parking lites), and spliced it to the new turn signal switch, so in order to restore the parking/turn signal lites you will probally have to install a new lite socket and bulbs ( the bulbs you wanna use is 1157, if you are running a 12 volt system).

Is the 1157 bulb a clear bulb or amber? I know my lense is a clear lense and the law says your supposed to have a amber signal..
I'm in the process of converting my truck too.

Hi,
Mine were the same way, as mentioned above ensure you have the double filament bulbs, then you will need to run a jumper wire from the headlight terminal to the parking light terminal on the light switch. Use a light tester if you know which wires are what.

Hey guys, I just re did my turn signals on my 55. I replaced the original socket with a double filament socket. Then it was a simple process of rewiring and getting the double filiment bulb.
