When that first happened to me i contacted the buyer and was honest in saying that i hadn't done any overseas stuff yet. The buyer was quite patient and helpful. It's not to hard to do once you get used to it, If it's a small part the post office will even help you get the best rate.
Let 'em know the auction was US only. If the payment method was paypal, refund it AFTER it clears. If they sent you a money order, check so on, send it back un cashed.
E-mail e-bay for a refund of the listing and sale charges explaining the problem.
It isnt that big of a deal, really. Just make certain the payment clears and you've charged enough to cover shipping. Then ship it promptly when payment clears. The customs forms are no problem at all. The buyer pays customs and duties on delivery.
I have left negative feedback when a seller charged me $25 to fill out a custom form that would have taken 30 seconds to complete.
It depends on what your item was and how tough it would be to produce a buyer. I generally offer items to US and sometimes Canada and Mex. I increase handling costs for international shipments due to the extra time and hassle. If I were to get a bid for an item that was not offered internationally and if I thought it would sell domestically with no problems, I'd simply cancel their bid. Hopefully they would not bid at the last minute...............
Seeing this is your first listing for future reference always research shipping weight before you list so you can put in the right postage. Also international like others have said is not that hard just make sure you have researched shipping. My feedback is over 200 with 100% rating and quite a few are from Canada and the UK, Shipping out of the states does take a little more time but those folks know it therefore its no big deal.
rebocardo - I didn't think this was necessary if I said "US only". Also, the winning bidder lists their location a MS, but their address is a millitary base in Spain.
CowboyBilly9Mile - They did bid at the last minute.
Mil1ion - The item is the new Elmo TMX
TheWiz427 - Not my first item, although I am a bit new at this....I never had an issue before.
I estimated the cost of shipping, using the USPS site & it was about $43 not including return reciept.
3.1.4 Military Post Offices
Military post offices (MPOs) are branches of a U.S. civil post office, operated by the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps to serve military personnel overseas or aboard ships. The term includes Army post offices (APOs) for the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force and fleet post offices (FPOs) for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. MPOs provide postal service for military personnel where the U.S. civil postal service does not operate and a military situation requires the service. MPOs are established or discontinued by the USPS only on request of the military department that operates them. Notice of these actions is published in the Postal Bulletin. Military post offices do not verify and accept bulk or discounted-rate mail; such mailings must be deposited at (nonmilitary) U.S. post offices.
