That's a ship type I don't recall...different configuration than a Second Class BB (Maine was one). Must date to the early 90's.
USS TEXAS, commissioned 1 month before the USS MAINE, Took part in the battle of Santiago, July 1898. She also took part in the bombardment of the Cayo del Tore, Guantanamo Bay,along with the USS Marblehead, who's claim to fame was the cutting of Cuba's underwater communications cable while under fire.
Next Marblehead after this one was a Scout Cruiser...served in the Asiatic Fleet. Badly damaged by bombs in 1942...it was still able to return to the US after a long steam around the Cape of Good Hope.
It's really a shame that they were not able to move her from the pier. I really hope they figure something out, that way they can get her to the shipyard. I'm sure it would be easier and less expensive to bring her to the worksite then the worksite to her. If they said to heck with it and let it sit in the mud, I'd be worried about corrosion.
My pop (grandfather) served on the Intrepid during Vietnam. A defenite salute and thank you to all the men who served aboard her.
