well, kinda-sorta.
they knew it was sitting in 17 feet of mud and river silt, so they got a dredge, and cleared a channel behind it the size of the hull to float it out on the highest tide of the year.

the one thing they forgot about, was that when the pulled the engines out at decommissioning, they left the 15 foot diameter props on it, and the 2 outer props are outside the hull area. so the 2 outside props dug into the river bottom and stuck it fast.

i was talking to an older man, earlier that day. he worked on the docks in new york city a long time ago, unloading sugar off of ships. he said they had to wait til high tide for the ship to come in, and they had to unload it before low tide. if they didn't unload in time, the ship would settle on the bottom. it would get stuck in the silt. they had to have divers go down and set charges to blow the silt away to break the vaccum before high tide came.

he told me, the Intrepid wasn't going anywhere with all the silt that has accumulated around it for 25 years. a few hours later i heard it was stuck on the radio.

I love reading and looking at American Navel firepower, when I was a kid and into my teenager years I collected several books and Janes handbooks on warships. You have had the cream of the crop in designs and weapons systems since WWII.... of coarse my favorite being the Iowa class Battleships and those 16 inch guns. Awsome stuff guys, keep the pictures and stories coming!

Nope - New york class came after this one.
Look close at the "two" ships.

USS Arkansas circa 1930's.

Both pics appear to be Wyoming class...Florida (Utah) had a different turret arrangement (I think).

Wyoming-Arkansas 12 12" 6X2
Florida-Utah 10 12" 5X2

HMS Agincourt 14 12" 7X2!

USS Utah Memorial is at PH...NW side of Ford Island. Not well known, btw.

Hint - both are Wyoming class. Again look closely at the "two" ships.

Arkie had different arrangement for secondary arrmament. Bottom pic seems to be Arkie, while top is Wyoming.

Wyoming used as training ship in WWII...Arkie became a "Mitsubishi Nightmare," along with Texas...both were fitted with multiple AA guns mounted everywhere.
