I'm looking at buying a 95 f-150, 4wd, with a 351, I've heard that they are good engines, but really like gas!!,(compared to the 302's) Are they really that bad on fuel?
What is the HP difference b/t the 351 and 302?
Are there any common problems with the 351 that I can look for?
No Idea about gas mileage, but I believe that in trucks from 92-96 the 302 had 185hp and the 351 had 210 or 215hp, something like that, the lightning(351) had 240, and the mustang 5.0's had 225.
If there's a difference in fuel mileage between the two, I'm not aware of it. My 95 E150 van with a 351 gets the same mileage the 5.0 vans get. BUT mine will outrun a 5.0, loaded or empty. The extra torque the 351 generates makes the difference but uses the same amount of fuel. My mileage has run anywhere from 11-16 mpg in the 11 years I've had it. As for problems with the 351? What problems? 150,000+ miles on mine and the only parts I've replaced on the engine has been the spark plugs, wires, rotor, cap and the throttle position sensor. And it still runs as good as the day it was new. The 90's 302's I've seen have a propensity for tossing rods at 100K miles.

Thanks!!
look at the 8th letter of the ven number. The 351W will have an H or an R.
The H 210hp@3600 rpm - Torque 325@2800 rpm
The R 240hp@4200 rpm - Torque 340@3200 rpm
