Was wondering if the shackle lift for the front of the superdutys is the way to go. They are pretty cheap and levels the truck out. Talked to the guy who was selling them and he said that he has sold a bunch of them with a lot of happy customers. What is the pros and cons of the shackle lift? I know a lot of people on here dont like them, just wondering why. Thanks 2002, SD 7.3L
I am thinking of adding a set of lift shackles to my 4" lift. I can't think of any negatives for it, other than the longer shackles will be weaker than short ones.
be careful about adding longer shackles! the shackles are already behins the axle (unlike OBS 250/350's) and so you wont have to reverse anything. the problem you may run into is driveshaft angles! depending how much lift you wanna get and how often you plan to use 4x4 if your driveshaft is at too much of an angle you will prematurely wear out the u-joints or even break them if the angle is steep enough!
however it would take quite a long shackle to get to that point so i say go ahead with it just be mindful about your shackle angle and driveshaft angle
Thanks for the feed back. Im just going to go with the two inch shackles. I only use my 4x4 during hunting season and only when I need it. Sounds like Ill be alright.
Beware shackle flips can lead to a change in your wheelbase...I used the existing locations and lost 4" of wheelbase...The leaf springs moves when the one end is lowered..Thats what changes the "z

a FYI 2" longer shackle will equal ~1" lift...I dont know about the SDs but a buddy just made some monster shackles (4" drop) to put on a OBS TTB F250...they drasticallt improved the ride, allowing for more and smoother spring compression.
Another thing to keep an eye on with shackle lifts is your driveshaft slip yokes, initially(sp?) it will extend the slip yoke, but with the longer shackles it will let your axle compress the spring more than it did before and could bottom out and cause all kinda bad stuff. Like a friend did on his cheby, his front yoke bottomed out and ripped the transfer case from the transmission. Something to think about, Dave.
