I have a 2000 f150 v6 5spd and wish to change the alternator, how do I take the tension off of the belt? I tried the "belt tensioner" by turning it counterclockwise, but it did not move. any ideas?
you get a 2 ft breaker bar anda socket, maybe 18mm. put it on the bolt on the tensioner pulley and pry in the direction that the belt gets looser. the tensioner ary and pulley aare spring loaded to keep the belt tight. after the belt is jumped off, you can slowly relax the tensioner with the breaker bar. then put the new belt on except for the last pulley, compressthe tensioner again, and jump the belt on the last pulley. then slowly release the tensioner with the breaker bar till the belt gets tight.
