I bought a new sensor a couple of years ago for the outside temperature for the overhead temp/compass console. Problem is...I can't find where the old one lives!!!
I even had the Ford dealer parts guy look and he couldn't find it either...we even looked at the wiring schematic to find the location....still can't find it. It's supposed to be in the vicinity behind the driver's side headlamp.
Anyone else have this strange mystery? I hate spending $40 on parts that aren't there.
if you do get it installed and it works, if you could post the Ford PN for that I would appreciate it... none here can get me the right one for my 97 mountaineer.
In any case, the sensor on mine is behind the grill... in front of the radiator on the left hand side by one of the supports. Take a look inside the grill with a flashlight and you will see it on the driver's side.

Thanks for any unpublished secret repair tips.
It is there. Jack front end up. I was working recently on a Mountaineer, trans-
mission lines and I saw it. It is up in a cavity.
Just found mine on 1997 EXP XLT. Lay on you back under drivers side frame area. Look up on top of the frame just behind the radiator. The two wires going to it are (blue/yellow stripe) and (blue white stripe).
...correction to my last post on 1997 EXP XLT outside air temp sensor location. it is on the drivers side just above where the frame ends. it is attached to the horizontal brace that runs in front of the radiator. it has a quick disconnect connector with 2 side lock prongs. this unplugs the two wires. the temp sensor itself, is mounted on one of those white push in clips with one lock prong. the push in clip can be carefully removed from its appx 1/4 hole that the clip plugs into.
