I noticed a few days ago that when starting, the truck seemed a little wierd. Well today I noticed that when I start it, it just doesn't seem to have the quickness that it usually does, and then I saw that my gauges go to full pegged, hold for a second, all the way back down to nothing for a second then come up to where they are supposed to be. Now if I recall correctly, this means the battery is dying. Is this right? Otherwise the truck runs fine and the alt gauge shows good.

It's most likely your battery, or If battery is somewhat new, clean the battery terminals (+/-) and so as connectors from the cable. Local auto parts store (Kragen, autozone) will actually check your battery, alternator, starter for free. For what I remember, when I replaced my battery, kragen checked my alternator first before they actually sold me their battery. They wanna make sure I don't come back there complaining for a dead new battery due to bad alternator.
How old is the battery? If it has any age to it I would go ahead and replace it just for the security of it. The guages being pegged is a dead, pardon the pun, givaway of the battery on it way out though.
