Nc Inspections
It has been a while since I posted here. But I have heard a lot of buzz about the NC vehicle inspection exemption. I got the paper in front of me so I wanted to share with any body who wants to know. It is a memorandum from John Robinson, Jr., Director NCDMV License and Theft Bureau. SUBJECT: NC senate bill 1083, Dated: November 12, 2004. In a nut shell it states that all motor vehicles 35 years from the date of manufacture, do not have to have a NC state inspection, it also states you do not have to have an Antique or Horseless Carriage plate. This is not the NC, GS 20-182.2 that says you need an Antique plate. This memo seems to have put that to rest; I got my copy from my local State inspection station. I will be glad to post a copy of the document if any one would like to see it, if that is cool with the rules of the site.

We do not have that crap in Cali thank goodness, I did see a 70 F250 at Sears going thru a brake inspection for insurance renewal. The ASI certified "Goober" used a chisel to peel back the locking washer then on the jam nut. Placed nuts, washer and taper bearing all in a row on the dirt crusted leaf spring. Twenty minutes later reassembled eveything including dirt he then rechiseled the jam nut tight. With sharp splinters of metal sticking out of the jam nut he continued assembly. Hammer mechanic at his best, i'm glad we don't have inspections in Cali with idiots like that working on my vehicles.
Not quite the aviation standards I work with.

as we all know most of the state inspections ar nothing but a money scheme..south carolina did away with the state inspections back in 1992 or 1993 and have never talked about it again..up until last year my 1986n bronco II had to have the emission inspection, just a big waste of my $30.glad i don't have to do that anymore!!

I too register my truck in Wyoming... Fritolay, where are you at in our great state? Of course Wyoming makes up for the lack of inspections by making up for it in license fees. They base the license cost on what the Manufaturers Suggested Retail Price, was on the truck when it was new and depreciate it "only slightly" over a period of 10 years. In other words, my 71 Ford F250 is 35 years old and fully depreciated from it's new cost of $3400.00. The plate fee is $45.... My 95 Dodge dually is nearly 12 years old and fully depreciated from it's new cost of $28,000.00 and the plate fee is $158.00... these cost's will remain the same till the day they go to the junkyard. A new truck, will be much higher for plates...If you buy a new vehicle in WY and drive it for say 20 years... you will have bought and paid for the vehicle nearly twice... just in license plate fees! If you park it in a barn and dig it out 20 years later... you have to pay a penalty for every year the vehicle wasnt plated..... IMO somewhat of an unfair tax

Here in Cali I pay $131 a year for a 68 CS, it has commercial plates.
Can't you have a vehicle in storage filed under non operational, I belive our fee is only $10 0r $20 annually? Base fee for older motorcycles are $52 at least on my bikes of the 70's.
I remember years ago cars at $13 and bikes $11, now it's all those add on fees.

My 71 was in the barn twice in it's life... once for about 10 years after my brother was lost in Nam and again in storage from 2000 to 2005. Both times all prior year license fees had to be caught up to date before new plates would be issued... what a crock...what a PITA!!! I complained but was just told it's just another way you pay for the mountain view in Wyoming...take it up with the Legislature...

Dad passed away in 02 and I had a lengthly battle with sister and her attorney, he demanded that nothing to be done with the vehicles, 2 cars and a bike. Well 4 years later i'll have penalties which I refuse to pay, thinking of waiting until they fall off the state computer then reregister. Last date told is 6 years but can't find it anywhere officially, should I enquire at DMV they will restart the clock.

RMPC i was born and raised between Shoshoni and Riverton went to school in both towns and graduated from Shoshoni. I am currentyl living in the god forsaken flats of Kansas stationed at Ft. Riley. May want to check if a new owner has to pay the back registration I think dad got around that on one of his cars once he "sold it" to a freind then bought it back.
