Ok, so i've done searches here, but all the threads that I've looked at seem to get sidetracked and don't really answer the question that I have. How would/could I go about converting a 1987 F150 with a speed density computer into a Mass Airflow system?
you can obtain a kit from ford racing to convert over to mass air, i used one and found it all very straight foward. the catalog can be down loaded for free http://www.fordracingparts.com
Maybe. Depends on how much time you want to spend looking for donar vehicle, pulling the computer, MA sensor, wire harness and changing out some of the wires and or sensors. Since you don't have an electronic transmission that will help. A Mass Air computer from a 5.0 mustang could be used, but you will need to make some adjustments to the wire harness. Cost is going to vary on any used parts, so I would suggest you make your list of items you need and start looking.
the question is why? what are you doing that would need mass air upgrade. Speed density can handle most basic mods, just careful choices in parts must be done so the computer is cool.
i would like to build it, putting in possibly a stroker kit, and getting it bored for a 393, with some better heads.
However, if i can do it with speed density, im happy. I've heard that for SD you have to make sure you have a certain kind of cam to keep it happy, but what kind? is it the duration, or what? and I would like to put some better heads and some headers on, but I heard that since SD goes on previously set stuff, the better airflow isnt going to help as much as I would want it to.
Ive assembled 3 maf kits off of Ebay. Harness, air box ,maf sensor , and computer . For 94 up truck . Averaged $250.00. Plug and play. But the harness would need to be reworked to fit your older cab harness and firing order. There are more responsive and small improvement in gas milage. But if your not going to mod your truck to death . Alot can be done the money.Good luck

Look for an A9P computer and harness from a 89-93 Mustang. You will have to lengthen a few sensor leads, but no big deal. I have all of these parts if you need them. PM me if you are serious. You should be able to switch for around $400ish if you do the work yourself.
the key to the cam is a lob seperation of 114* or more. any less and the computer wont idle properly etc... Cammotion is a custom cam builder and if you were to tell them what your doing they could make a cam that would work.
As I'm tying this I'm looking atebay and there is guy with ecm, both harnessesYou will need both), maf sensor could contact and see if had air box to0 Being sold by fordreble306 might get everything no bids yet . Are some it buyitnow too. Good luck

so, ive done some looking, and all that comes in a kit is the MAF EEC, the Airbox w/sensor, and some come with a harness that looks like it only goes to the injectors, and some have a "jumper harness", what is that, and would I just use the other pins and switch them over?
You will get an injector overlay that plugs into the exisiting harness that will now make you injectors fire sequentially. I don't think that that kit requires any repinning. However, you can get a better price if you put it together yourself. I believe that the FMS kit sells for $650ish. Check eBay for the parts of PM me.
yeah, and aother thing is that my dad wants to take my old 302 and build it up and put it in his boat, but since he's wanting to put in a marine cam (with 110 degree separation), we will probably be looking at this as well.
