4x4 not working all the time

I just bought a 2000 F250 PSD about 3 months ago, it has the auto 4x4 system and the first couple times i used it, it worked fine and now when i go to use it, it won't work. The only way I can make it work is by putting them into lock and the 4x4 will work, then when I put it back into auto it works. Will this damage the 4x4 system if it is auto and won't kick in, or can i treat the hubs as if they were manual and whenever i want to use the 4x4 i have to switch them to lock? Also could I just take it to a dealer and have them service the hubs by putting new seals, checking the transfer case and whatever else would need to be done ?

Welcome to FTE! That is a common problem with the Super Duty trucks. You should click Forums at the top left then scroll down to the Super Duty forum. Look around there or ask and you should get some help. Enjoy your stay.
