So I just traded in the trusty old '88 Ranger 2.9 for the unknown (but very comfy) '94 Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.0. It runs pretty good, little things here and there as to be expected in a vehicle that age. My main concern is this:
When accelerating, if I just mash on the gas, the engine bogs down, and while it doesn't die, it won't go anywhere either. I find if I ease into the gas, it will go okay, though sometimes I overdo it on a hill, and then have to back off and ease back into it slower to get it going.
I've tried the obvious. Fuel filter replaced, air filter checked, spark plugs checked. I've read a few things in the forums, but haven't run across this exact scenario. It does not matter if the engine is hot or cold, it always does this.
first, please pull PCM codes....Autozone and other parts retailers have free use code scanners
please codes post to forum
new parts too expensive to just try and guess shotgun performance issues on OBD power trains
leaking ignition wires, contaminated MAF, deposits on injectors, intake valves- combustion chamber ring pack deposits, worn out contaminated 02 sensor, plugged damaged cat. converter
If you are getting all good on the codes, replace the air filter, try another MAF or clean the one you have with CRC brake cleaner (the kind that leaves no residue), check your fuel pressure, check for vac leaks.
