99 Overdrive Problem...

99 Overdrive Problem...

the overdrive button never has really worked properly since i got the truck, but overdrive has always stayed on, so it wasnt much of a problem... until recently. twice in the past week, when ive started up, the light for "Overdrive Off" came on, and i tried to turn it off, but it wouldnt go off, so i shifted into drive and the light finally went off. however, overdrive stayed off, even though the light wasnt on. i figured out i have to keep turning the truck off and on in park until the light goes off (while still in park). any suggestions on how to tackle this?

Pull the steering column shroud and inspect the wiring where it exits the shifter arm and starts down the column.

Chafed, pinched, and open wires are common at this point.
