I just bought an 89 F350 with the 7.3 liter which I was told needed a new IP. A friend gave me one he purchased for his 6.9 liter. Can I use that on the 7.3?
it will probably make it go. be careful when changing the old pump out, dont remove the tower and gear. the pump should come out the back of the tower with all the fuel lines attached to it.
mark the electric lines, remove the fuel lines from the injectors and fuel supply line from the pump and filter ... remove the oil fill or the little cover on the front of the tower (2 ... 1/2 inch bolts) inside there are 3 5/16 12 pt bolts holding the pump to the drive gear ... dont drop them inside... remove the 3 9/16 nuts holding the pump to the tower ... out she comes. reinstalling is reverse, there is a groove in the pump drive that fits over drive tab in drive gear ... there should be stake marks on the pump and tower .. line em up. just start the injection lines to the injectors so you can bleed the air out. Dont crank too long on the starter when reconnecting and starting first time .. the starters are heat sensitive. Once ya get fuel up, snug the lines up with fingers til it wants to start or does start and tighten the lines up one at a time with a wrench. Also, since you're already apart, get return kit from intl dealer or injection shop and do it to it.
You might want to have an injection shop set up the IP for the 7.3l motor and your injectors first. There are various injector codes, you should probably find out which injectors you have first and then give all that information along with the year of your 7.3l to the injection shop so they can calibrate it all properly.
