Egr

I just rebuilt my 351W and I need to know where the EGR vacuum line goes. When I got the truck none of the vacuum line was hooked up so I have no idea where it goes. All of the smog equipment was also gone. It has no air pump or anything. Its just a strait 351 with a stock 4 barrel holley.

So is it just the EGR you need or all the vacuum hose as well.

A straight (strait ?) 351 ?

Do you actually mean a regular 351W as opposed to a 351W HO ?

It was a 351W HO out of an 85 F150. I rebuilt it due to it sitting in my friends yard for 8 years. However the vacuum lines were all gone when I got the truck therefore I have no idea where they go. I have the vacuum advance hooked up as well as the brake booster and the line for the transmission and the cruise control. The truck runs well except that the gas mileage is pretty bad and it seems to be running rich which is probably because I had to rebuild the carb ( a stock holley 4 barrel) and I dont think that the air fuel mixture is quite correct. Any help would be appreciated.

I have all 85 vacuum diagrams at my disposal.

Is there a sticker with Engine ID on the valve cover somewhere ?
If you have the numbers I can post the exact one.

There were about 25 different routings for vacuum for the 351W.

There are 3 regular ones on this page near the bottom.

Meanwhile here is the 78's EGR diagram JUST to give you an idea where things go.

That sticker fell off when I was cleaning up the valve covers and I'm not sure where it is anymore. Is there any other way of telling??

What tranny & axle do you have?
I assume it is 49 state and not a California Truck ?

2v or 4v carb ?

I have 8 different diagrams for an 85 F series truck with 5.8L

If you find it I need to know the 3 letters at the very bottom left hand corner of the sticker ?

If you don't have the solenoids and other EGR control components that originally came on the truck/engine, you'd likely be better off just leaving the EGR valve vacuum port disconnected and plugging the unused vacuum ports on the carburetor and manifold unless your truck is required to have emissions checks. Without the EGR valve operating you may need to slightly reduce the size of the carburetor main jets to reduce mixture richness at highway speeds.

If you have an aftermarket carb, you can block the ports off if you don't have underhood inspections like Piffery1 said.

If you have the stock carb, you may need to run the egr to keep the engine from pinging.

It is a stock 4v carb. Right now I have everything blocked off and she doest ping at all. So maybe I do just need to dial in the fuel air mixture.
