I hope this has not been discussed before, my searches came up empty.
I am looking into a 2002 Edge 4x2 with the 3.0 5speed 2 door supercab. What is different in the front Suspension to raise it to the same height as 4x4?
Also the 8th vin is a "U" does that mean it is not flex fuel?
Truck has 48K MILES on it and looks sharp, the wheels appear to be aftermarket.
Were all Edges 4.10 rear gear? or is there hope it has a 3.73?
Can't help ya, but I was wondering about the whole flex fuel thing too. Mine is an "E". Didn't know the VIN made a difference. If mine is flex fuel...I assume we can just switch between ethanol and unleaded.
If you have the flex fuel you can just switch but it's better advised you reset the computer when you do so it relearns it's tables and what not. That being said, it's still a dog on E85.
My Edge has the 3.73 open diff. As for the front suspension, it's got torsion bars. I keep getting asked how I like my "4x4" and always get funny looks when I reply that it's just a 2 wheel drive truck.
I think the designers made the Edge that way on purpose, to have a 4x2 look like a 4x4, and the 4x4 versions at the same ride height and stance.
Called the dealer selling it today, not a flex fuel. I think he said the axle code is 86? 49K miles cruise/tilt and spray in bed liner and slider rear window. THey are asking $9000.
The 3.0 lacks in power and mpg, the old saying goes, "the 3.0 has the same power as the 4 cylinder and the same mpg as the 4.0, so where's the benifit" ?
I drove the 2002 Edge today. 4x2 3.0V6 5speed axle code is 86, acording to chart on this site it should be 3.73 but RPM seem to show it as 4.10. It ran only 200rpm less than my 99 and the tire is about 1"taller.
This was the first time I have driven a 3slow and it was. getting up to speed did not seem much if any better than my 2.5 but I did notice more power to pass at highway speed. I was also surprised at the lack of features in the 2002 Edge compared to the 2003 Edge they also had. I did like the ride that the torsen bars gave.
Overall a very sharp truck but I think I will hold out for a 2.3 Duratech or 4.0 soch.

I didnt think there would be a big drop from the 4.0 to the 3.0 but, boy, was I wrong. My 2WD '96 was 4.0, and then I traded "up" to a 1999 4X4 3.0l and it was so sluggish but I thought that it was just because it was a 4X4 and my '96 was a lightweight 2WD. Then I bought my '04 FX4 with the 4.0 and then realized how slow the 3.0 is.
