I have a 2000 Excursion (V10) and I would like to know if anyone has found an aftermarket in-dash DVD/NAV system that doesn't have to slide out like the flip screens made by pioneer. Its seems like the CD/TAPE player space would be large enough for a stationary screen in that spot. If anyone has found one please help.
I have the Pioneer Avic D1, its double DIN--but the ford opening is a hair smaller than double din so minor trimming is required. mine is a year old the new one adds a hard drive and bluetooth. Great price, great unit, very happy. what ever you get chech Froogle for the best price, if you pay retail you are paying 30-50% more than you should.
I have the Eclipse AVN 5435 in my 2005 Ex. Unlike the Pioneer and other models, you can ground the parking brake safety allowing you to program destinations while in motion. You can play DVDs in motion too but I wouldn't recommend it. I got the optional back up camera and it's a huge help in the huge Ex. The whole package works great and looks good too. I always get compliments on it. I had it professionally installed and it was worth every penny to have them do it! Good Luck!
what kind of prices are these things???are they over $1000???
Racer, by the time your all said and done yeah you are way over $1k. My pioneer was a little over about $1050 if I remember--retail was about $2k. PM me for the website I got it from, or I'll post it--just not sure if allowed to post none sponsor websites. Anyway by the time you add XM, Ipod adaptor, TV tuner, backup camera, etc. it can get expensive. that is why I said in my previous post DON'T PAY RETAIL!!! LOL! If you walked into a "high end" audio place a said you wanted all that stuff you'd probly pay $4k, but buy it smart , instal it yourself and you should be at $1500-$1700 which is what I did. I have to swap out my speakers next the factory ones suck.
Oh renkenj, you can bypass the in-motion shut-off for the video in the pioneer also-I did
XHunter, Thanks for letting me know that about the Pioneer. I can't remember which model I was researching at the time, but when I was looking the installer guy assured me that there was no way to "trick" the pioneer because of some internal motion sensors. It was third party information and I should've checked it out before mentioning it here. No matter, you have yours and I have mine and we're both happy

Hey, no problem--for the pio, all you do is add a pin in a certain place and ground the parking brake and whamo you have by-passed the in-motion cut-off. Let me know if you have any other questions and I can go into more detail.
I recently put in a kenwood double din unit and I LOVE it! I have nav, dvd, xm, and mp3 capabilities. I travel a lot racing motorcycles so it really makes those long trips go by quickly and the navigation is way better than I expected. Being able to find a restaraunt out of town or where the next gas station is is HUGE! I don't remember the model of mine at the moment but I can check back tomorrow if your interested.

alright, anyone have an idea on what i should get??? i already have a dvd player and 5 screens (see gallery) and i want to get a new head unit. i was thinking of the pioneer avh-p6800dvd. its a 7" 6 disc dvd player. i can get it for $849.shipped. the question is, should i just get a full screen radio since i already have a screen up front? because the other unit that i could get is the kenwood ddx-6019. no dvd at all. and its only $635. or, the last one is pioneer avic d2, no dvd... please sent opinions.. oh, i dont want to spend more than $1000.
I'll take a picture, but please be patient--it won't be until tomorrow morning--maybe tonight. I actually don't remember! I'll slide the unit out and look. In the mean time you'll need an extra pin from another harness.
Yes there all like that for safty. How ever on some you can run a feed from a diferent player in to a video input on the back of the head. I have a feed going in to the rear veiw camra video input so I can have a split screen dvd/nav at the same time.
