XHunter, i am installing my d2 this weekend in my 2000 excursion. i was wondering if you could tell me where the best place to find the vss and reverse wire. also is there a dash kit that makes this work a little easier, any advise will be helpfull. thanks
Sorry, I just checked the board and saw your question....I hope your install went ok. I don't think I would have been much help anyway, I seem to remember someone use an install kit for a double din in a SD or Ex--just don't remember who or where it was. I didn't use one or really need one just a little creative fabrication to screww the unit in was all it took for me and a dremel on the dash trim.
And as for the wires...what is the vss? and for the reverse wire I just used a wiring harness from Best Buy and everything worked, however I haven't installed the reverse camera yet so I might run into so problems.
The only tip I can think of right now--if you haven't discovered this already is not to use an '05 (does;t apply if you don't have an '05) Ford wiring harness addaptor. you have to use '03/'04 or older. Obviously Ford wasn't going to change the wiring harness for the Ex in its last year.
I don't know this for sure but I am 95% sure that '05 SD and '05 Ex are different radio wiring harnesses....
Thanks for the help. Then install went well thanks to you and the guys at avic411. I put the HMI corp. backup camera in the third brake light and it works well. The v.s.s. (vehicle speed sensing) wire is a gray wire w/ a black stripe and is found behind the instrument cluster. I could not find the reverse wire (black with pink stripe) behind the dash, so I just ran another wire up with the camera wires and spliced into the reverse lamp. You need this so the camera comes up when truck is put in reverse. I did have to get creative with the dash mounting, but it was worth the time and effort. The pioneer D2 is an amazing unit. thanks again
I have a valor, just ground the p-brake wire,no problems. This unit is around $750,has built in 6 channel surround sound and built in tv tuner.Great picture, also have valor 8" flipdown in the back.No touch screen, but price a surround and tuner for a better known brand.
