Ok so on my 86 F-150 4X4 with a 5.0 EFI and AOD back in march i heard a loud bang and the it wouldn't move. So i pulled the trans and the torque converter was trashed. Replaced it and put everything back in. Now it has a STRONG (stronger than before) 1st and reverse but won't shift outa first gear. Now it does have some fluid leaking from between the transfer case and trans and i'm gonna work on that this weekend. Would that cause it not to shift ? Everyone tellse me i need to adjust the throttle kickdown cable and the shifter linkage but no one can tell me how too. If that is the problem anyone know how to adjust it ? The old fluid when i pulled the pan was clean. wasn't burnt nor did it contain and metal chunks

I had the the same problem and it ended up being the valvebody insinde the pan. It cost me 160$ to have my local tranny shop fix it. Now it shifts like its brand new..
You were lucky the tranny shop diagnosed it and fixed it correctly. How many times do tranny shops say the trans is shot and you need a new one, as they point to their rebuilts on the racks...Could be a real minor problem but they still steer you to a rebuilt tranny....Sorry to steal the thread, just my long pented up rant.....
Go to the AutoZone website "Repair Guides". There is a section on AOD transmission Throttle Valve (TV) linkage and other adjustments. Easy to follow with illustrations. OBTW, no vacuum line (for modulator) on AOD; that's for C4, C5 & C6.

The tranny shop is part of our local car club, so i trust him and he isnt out there to screw people. I know what you mean about shops trying to rip people off. Too bad there werent more like our local shop. Good luck getting it fixed..
