Mine has never overheated, no shroud.. i have however caught the edge of my hand an the timing light on the blade a time or to...if anything safety would be a reason for one
I live in Arizona so maybe the summer heat makes a difference with the overheating without a fan shroud. I have ran cars in Cali without shroud with no problems but Az is a different story.
i was reading here and im trying to figure out exactly what engine is in my truck it says 360 on the air filter cover but on the block the right hand side when you are standing in front on the truck the side where the fuel pump is there is the number 59 i think its 59 even though my truck is a 69 and then under the number 59 is the number 352 i checked the vin and it comes up with a 360 just like it should is this just some odd number for something else everything seems to be stock 50 thousand miles i was told by the old owner and i trust him and wow engine is really strong
Welcome aboard eddieandgayle!
After thirty-some years anything is possible. You could look for the engineering numbers cast or stamped on every part, you could look for date codes, eventually you just have to determine the stroke (at the least), and measure the bore. Given the durability of these engines, I wouldn't doubt yours is origional.
Ford at one time used colors on the valve covers to denote engine size.
The rounded covers say in block letters T H U N D E R B I R D or F O R D. I've seen plain ones also..on Edsels (361 engine). The Merc covers say M E R C U R Y.
I've never seen "Powered By Ford" on the early covers.
Only the early 332 and 352's had adjustable rockers...'58 and '59...can't recall if '60 had them also.
ok maybe i will try taking a pick of what i can and getting more numbers other than the 59 352 i dont see anything i have blue valve covers that say powered by ford on them its prolly just the origional factory block size stamp then when their done making it a truck engine it becomes a 360 i dont see why else a 360 would say 352 on it unless it truly is a 352 but those didnt come in trucks in 69 unless it has had an engine swap which i highly doubt but then again vin numbers arent the end all of facts for knowing what is in your car my cars vin says i has such and such brake disk size but they arent that size
That 352 cast into the block appears on most 352-360 and 390 engines. The basic block is the same for all three.
Ford went away from ID'ing colors on the covers around 1966....so your covers are correct for the truck...the entire engine..post 1966 was painted blue.
The 65-66 p/u 352 engines were painted black.
Post some casting numbers here...example..cyl head: C8AE-6049-AA
