Hi guys,
When i'm driving down the road and get into the throttle, my rpms and boost shoot up, but I don't accelerate much. When I back off the throttle a little bit, I get a whiplash motion from the truck and it seems to accelerate normal. Is my clutch slipping, or what else could it be. 99 f350 6 speed. Thanks guys!
I was thingking about replacing it with a LUK. I have a predator now, but am going to go to a DP flip chip in the spring with 100hp max. Will the LUK be able to stand up to the extra power? Any other recomendations for a replacement? Single or dual mass flywheel? Thanks!
I'm getting the LUK when the time comes to do the job.
There's several options that you need to decide upon and that depends on your future plans for your truck.
Mech2161 has a dual disk setup for his sled pulling rig and he drives it to work every day.
Just bought a LUK clutch too. Havn't had the time to install it yet though. Came with a new flywheel, t/o bearing, pilot bearing and clutch & pressure plate. I called Carolina Clutch and they were very helpful. They an FTE sponsor.
South Bend now offers their kit as a replacement sold without flywheel for the 99-03 solid flywheel (oem) trucks. Contact Larry at DPP they are also a site sponsor.
are there any dissadvatages to re-surfacing my one year old solid flywheel? Just wandering, last winter I repalced my clutch with a stock napa replacement. This winter i want to through in a luk kit but without having to buy a new flywheel. Can i just get mine resurfaced. Do I need a spacer plate behind the flywheel?
Some clutches require you to replace your flywheel for mating surfaces or weight I assume. I got the South Bend Organic (up to 400hp) from Black Cloud and like it. SB clutches are modified LUKs. Just make sure you get the Kevlar bushing. Napa clutch didnt hold up or what?? Changing only after a year? Ouch. Check out my gallery if you want to see pics of the SB. Spacer plate??

Totally agree! Get the kevlr bushing. Kevin set me up with Larry and I couldn't thank him more. Larry at DPP gave me a better price than buying from South Bend. The Con Ofe was a great clutch. I've since went to the Con FE. It's still a great clutch with excellent driveabilty. IMHO do it once and do it right. These clutches might cost a little more but I can't make mine slip no matter how hard I try.

Excellent! I wasn't looking forward to replacing a perfectly good flywheel just because the LUK wouldn't bolt up to it.
Bottom line I wasn't going to buy something that required that. I would have been willing to simply buy another stocker from Ford or whoever.

There are lots of options on that end other than a stock replacement. Hayes makes an H/D replacement that's less that $400. Zoom has the ZVT in organic or ceramic for $500-700. The new Luk of course......lots more stock flywheel options than there were just a couple of years ago.
Luk has a clutch that will bolt up to the stock flywheel now? I would prefer to get that one.
I've used Luk for years at work and never had any trouble with them.
So seriously, what is the best bet now for a high hp clutch? I don't want to spend 1k for a clutch, but i'd like to get some injectors and see what this thing can do, and not have to redo it! Thoughts?
