I have a 2001 PSD, MBRP 4" turbo back, stage II AFE, Edge Juice w/Attitude, Tru-Cool tranny oil cooler. My truch has a R4100 tranny and 373 rear end. I live in the hills of east TN. and usually am pulling a 10,000 lb. travel trailer. The hills (mountains) at times force it out of overdrive and many times I closely watch the EGTs and RPMs and kick it out manually. We are planning a trip to the rockies in a couple of months and wanted some feed back about maybe going to 410s and an exhaust brake. any feedback will be appreciated.
I have a 2000, and I have an extra tranny cooler, but not a good one like your tru cool, and I'm running a BD 75 chip & 373 grears and run the hils here in co just fine. The hills here will pop you out of OD they are just to big to always run in OD.
An E brake is very nice to have while coming down the mountain. I love mine while towning my TT. If it where me I would save the $$ on the 410's unless you really want new gears and go with the e brake. I have the cheap $20.00 EBPV mod e-brake and work fine so far.
Here's another vote for the exhaust brake. What you call mountains on the east coast we on the west call them hills. That exhaust brake is a lifesaver.
As far as the gear ratio change, the 4.10s will make a HUGE difference but there goes your mileage. It's very expensive but if you want the best, consider a US Gear underdrive unit. That way you can have the best of both worlds.
Just returned from a trip out west 3 weeks ago, allthough I didn't pull a trailer , we have a truck camper that's about 3000 lbs loaded. Did the mountain passes just fine, seldom did I have to down shift. My truck is basicly stock with 3:73's. Did the ebpv mod before I left and was glad I did , cheapest exaust brake out their.
