One side brighter than the other
My dad pointed out to me the other day that the right side tail light is brighter than the left side, both the brake light and running light. I was thinking it might be a bad ground on the left but wanted to see what others thought before I started tracking down the ground. Where exactly is the ground for the tail lights?

Are you sure the housing doesn't just need a good cleaning. The bulbs can get really dusty, and I have seen grass growing in taillights before, on a daily driven truck even. 
If thats not the case, then I would start looking at the ground, and like tewfer said, check the sockets for corrosion.

I thought about a dirty lens too, but haven't had a chance to take a close look at it. Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions. I'll give it a look-see this afternoon maybe and let you guys know what I find.
