After all this time I finally decided to install some bed lights. I got the set from Autozone for about $25. It comes with 8 pods with 4 LEDs each. I used an old outdoor extension cord for my power and ground from the battery. I got that idea from a Youtube video. I put an inline fuse under the hood on the hot side and left the extra wire unhooked for future use. I ran the wires down through engine bay up through the left front stake hole and mounted the switch there just below the top rail. I wanted it hot all the time so I can flip it on without the key. I looped the the cord to the other front stake hole by going back down and over the fuel tank for power for the other side. I was surprised how bright the lights are. Since I had $20 in rewards I stopped today and got the Sylvania Super Bright 921 LED bulbs for the backup lights. It took about 5 minutes to install them. They are so much brighter than the stock bulbs. I am hoping they will improve the vision through the backup camera.
Man you guys are rough. I took this one after I installed the driver's side. I don't think you can tell the difference from the photo. To be honest, the wife got a new car and I inherited the van. The truck doesn't see as much use as it once did.
Tracy, I installed those same bulbs in my reverse lights a little over a year ago and was impressed by the difference. Backing up a long, dark driveway at 2a was quite a bit more of a challenge on the stock bulbs. Unfortunately, I didn't get before and after pics, but they make a huge difference.
I bought these super bright a must buy I believe these are the best or first tail lights but that is my opinion I will take a photo later tonight when it's dark up against the garage
The one to the far right in the first picture looks brighter because I pointed it toward the hitch. I didn't mount all of them in the same place on each side. Some of them are offset to spread the light to different areas. The bed looks spotty because I touched up all the scrapes on my do-it-yourself bedliner last week.
The connectors for the step/running board lights are in the garage on the workbench. I'm waiting for the LED strips to show up this week. I should have that done by week's end. I went with cool white.
