I bought a 66 F100 with a 289 stuffed in it. Literally stuffed. The perches had a plate bolted to each one of 5/8" steel, about 6" long so the they could move the engine back 3 or 4" - I suppose so it would fit the driveshaft. The cylinder head was actually resting on the firewall.
Anyway, I bought the front of a '76 to get the disc brakes and it had the perches from whatever motor was in it still on. They are a bit shorter and squattier than the ones that were in the truck.
My problem is that I don't know what perches are supposed to work correctly with the 289? I plan to keep the engine and rebuild it, but I'm worried that when they stuffed the engine in they just grabbed any old perches and made them work. In all the engine swap kits I can find listed, there doesn't appear to be one to put a 289 in for a 240 - which makes me think you just use the original perches with no issue. But I don't know if mine are the original.
Does anyone make an aftermarket perch that I could buy and just be done with any worry of what was original or not?
289 is the same as a 302. 2wd trucks had 302's as an option, so finding one should be fairly easy. your 240 perches will not work for a 289. looking at where your 66's perches are, looking back, do you see another set of bolt holes for the v8's perches?
76 truck, if 2wd, could be an FE, or 302. inline 6 perches are same as an FE, so comparing what you have with the 76, might tell you what you have. Also, try the door tag for an engine code.
