if you really want to run tires that large RELIABLY, youll need to do an SAS. I have an 87 ranger, if i wanted to run tires that big, I would find a 78-79 bronco and swap the ranger body onto it.

For something that large on a ranger chassis, it would pretty have to be custom made if you want it to last very long.

The guy you need to talk on here would be Monsterbaby!

Bob the problem with swapping the ranger body onto the 78 or 79 bronco frame is the axles are wider sticking out way past the fenders then. swap onto a 76 or 77 bronco frame and it's about the right width but you do need to lengthen the frame, but even with that I wouldn't put 49" tires on it due to the D44 won't hold up for long. If you want ot run 49s you really need a 1 ton rear ends under the truck to live any length of time. I run 35s on the front and broke both front axles this year, granted stock axles but also a lot smaller tire I am not sure even chromoly axles in a D44 would survive long and don't even thing about that stock ranger axles living with those tires.

The only ranger that I know of that ran tires that big was little foot, from the Bob Chandler stable of big foot trucks and it was all fabed, it had military axles and all 4 wheels would turn. 35's is the biggest I would run on a ranger, or your just begging for trouble, unless you have very deep pockets. That wouldn't even be street legal in most states, not to mention unsafe.

monsterbaby.. I have 9" front and rear axels and have boxed in the frame entirely. I have a 390ci running about 465hp and would rather do all i can to get these tires on my ranger rather then my f150. I have a buddy that with give 44" tires for my 49's.. The largest suspensin kit i can find is an 8" kit... would i be able to "safely" build a sub-frame of some sort to weld to the fram to gain some height?? or will i run into problems?

Ok first I need you to answer a few questions for me before I decide the best way to recommend going if you don't mind.
A. What is the truck going to be used for, IE road, mud drag, bogging, rock crawling, mall crawling etc.
B. How good are you at fabrication
C. How much fabrication are you willing to do on this
D. how important is keeping the basic looks stock

Now I can say this the 9" is a darn strong axle, I am pushing a lot of hp with 39.5" cut boggers but I run all aftermarket, chromoly axles, strang carrier, alum daytona pinion support Motive AX gears, billet spool, and billet yoke so it's not just any 9" axle, and personally I feel a 9" is pretty marginal with 44s on a rear axle let alone a flipped unit for use as a front end, the reasons are they really aren't designed for that much weight unless it's setup with a 35 spline axle setup and 1 ton axles.
Here is what happens to 1 ton D60 front stub shaft with a 600hp big block and 44s in mud.

Thank you for your help..
1. the truck is going to be used for mud boggin'.
2. I am pretty good at fabrication.. Not the best but not bad at all.
3. I will do whatever needs to be done.
4. It would be nice to try to keep a stock body appearance.

and i might have been mistaken.. I took a look at the axels and they might be 8.8". But i can get my hands on some strange axels for a decent price. I am kind of trying to go for the mrs.bigfoot look...

but i know not that big.. But as close as possible without spening a small fortune.

Ok, then we have a place to start, forget the half ton axles just ain't gonna survive sorry. you want to find atleast 1 ton stuff, D60 front with Chromoly axles, D70 rear min. If you look at the Ms bigfoot truck it is running 2.5ton rockies under it and they are upgraded to survive if that gives you an idea.
If you look in my gallery at the first one you will see a pic of my ranger setup with fullsize axles that will give you an idea of what it will look like, but what I suggest is finding a 70s something F350 and putting your body on that frame, first it's much stronger than the ranger frame, second it already has the start of a suspension setup to get you what you want. Now this does require custom built body mounts to achieve, and in my case I moved the rear axle 21" forward to achieve the wheelbase to get the tires in the fenderwells (mine happens to be a 77 F150 frame) now if you want to stay coils up front then use a F150 frame like I did and then convert the D60 to have the ability to run the half ton suspension, not too hard to accomplish. if you want custom suspension on the front like coilovers with ladder bars or 4 linked front then go with either frame. on the rear I would run a coilover/ladderbar style suspension (once again check that gallery I have pics of my setup) then by adjusting your mounting points you can achieve whatever lift you need to get the clearence. Or run to a coilover and triangulated 4 link setup which is what I will be switching too. Also no matter what frame you run expecially if you think you want ot run a stock ranger frame you will want a min of 10 pt roll cage connected solid to the frame this will help with the rigidity and strength.
That should give you some thoughts on a start and we can go from there as you fine tune your plan.
