crank the truck this morning first morning below freezing
drive 10 miles to work and let idle while idleing i notice a fuel smell
look under the truck and its pouring fuel
go out at break and no fuel in the valley of the engine its puring off the back of the engine though. down the side of the engine i'm guessing and running off the torque converter cover onto the ground.
what are my possibilities? can't see any fuel from the top
valve at the bottom of the fuel bowl ? o-rings?
what other possibilites
i'll investigate further when i get home but what else can i look for?
I don't have much experience with fuel leaks but i have read alot on here about the valve on the fuel bowl leaking threw the orings. Do a search, i know that about two weeks ago there was a long post about people having fuel leaks that might help you.
... and recently (past week), people have been discussing a potential problem using the newly released ULSD Diesel Fuel and how it may be linked to creating fuel leaks. Apparently, the thinking is that the ULSD Fuel is more "aggressive".
I believe that the most likely area affected is the O-rings of the Fuel Bowl Drain Valve. It's behind the Fuel Filter Bowl, and has a yellow handle. This valve is used to drain the fuel bowl on occassion as needed to remove water build-up. It drains through a drain tube down the passenger side of the engine.
The Owner's Manual suggests to drain a portion of the bowl on a regular schedule or when the Water in Fuel (WIF) light is on.
The new ULSD Fuel may be attacking the O-rings of the valve, causing the leak. A quick suggestion was to operate the valve handle several times, hoping for it to re-seal. Otherwise, the O-rings will need to be replaced.
Not sure if this is your particular problem, but has been recently discussed.

Gee, I wonder what could be causing this. Surely not fuel related.
I realize my post looks like I'm stupid, what I mean is I've gone through about 2 dozen sets of them in 2 weeks.
I believe in the ULSD theory.. Its ruining the o-rings.
well, "way back" when they changed to REGULAR Low-sulfur Diesel, most older engines had to be re-plumbed with nitrile tubing because the new formulation was literally EATING the rubber away in the sections of fuel line that were in fact rubber... the outside of the hose would look great, but they were disintegrating from the inside out. I can't imagine ULSD being any more FRIENDLY!
here is a little more information. I got home and pulled the PSD cover out of the way and got to where I could see.
The fuel is not coming out of the fuel drainn hose i have run out to the front bumber.
where the pipe comes up from the fuel drain hose and attaches to a black plastic piece. The black plastic piece is the piece that contains the fuel drain valve.
its dripping at OR below where the fuel drain hose connects
The fuel drain hose is a metal hose attached with a short piece of black hose........no clamp or anything......IS THIS NORMAL????
If the o rings go bad where is the leak? at the drain hose or where i'm describing?
Its filling the valley and draining to the bottom of the engine
Thats the orings. It depends on which oone is leaking the worst as to where you see the most fuel (Valley or drain hose). If you wan tto be absolutely sure check under the GPR there is a small metal p-clip that holds the fuel line to the pass side head sometime they will loosen and wear through but 99% of the time it is the o-rings.

No clamp there as it should not be under pressure. You're leak is the orings most likely and it will come out of the housing by the drain lever. The fan will blow it back.
Garrett, I did not mean to make it seem like I was insulting you. You're input is invaluable in diagnosing this new rash of leaks. WTH else could we attribute it to? If I came off that way I apologize. Not my intention. Just kinda PO'd that big brother will mandate some BS and to heck with the little guy's problems.
are the o rings rubber? or nitril? i've been running biodiesel all summer. and went to the beach last weekend and ran 2 tanks of ULSD and now this? I guess it could have been either one of the fuels but i'm blaming it on the USLD
Could it be water in the fuel bowl freezing, since it is the first cold snap of the year?

PS thanks guys this is a HUGE help just gotta get time to replace them.
Bio will do nothing to even rubber. Could definately be from freezing water in the bottom of the bowl. I am ready to blame ULSD at this point. Probably weakening stock rings then any water freezing is doing them in. I think rubber would even hold up but I believe the part should be Nitril
