The increased work load being put on the torque converter can cause it to swell--causing it to rub on the inside of the bell housing. It can also break and/or bend vanes within the converter.
I never understood the fascination with peeling out. Once upon a time, I drove a Mercury Bobcat with a 1.6L carbureted motor. If I could roast the tires in two gears in that, what is so great about burning 'em off with a newer car/truck with many times the power?!?
i have never powerbraked my truck, as odd as it seems. being younger, i get the urge to do it all the time due to peer pressure, but yet again no one wants to pay for a $3900 transmission for me. however, when i go to BTS to get my transmission, im going to do a huge burnout close to the shop or maybe in the parking lot (LOL) and then go in and get my rebuilt tranny. i just want the sensation of burning out once, but yet again my new wheels and tires were about $375 a tire, and no, im not going to shorten their life ANY. however my buddy that i took to Fall Brawl with me, he has a 06 6.0, and he will never lose the chance to light them up. when he left he laid the longest strip i've seen, and then it motivated the rest to go out and warm up their tires
You're a little more abrasive than usual, who peed in your Wheaties?!!
Well, I believe in doing things well. If I'm going to be abrasive, I should be as abrasive as possible.
Plus, I hate the sound of squealing tires. Try having 18 of them pass you about 10 feet away in an L-shape (jackknife), all locked down and sliding at about 60MPH. Then you'll understand.

See, nobody peed in his wheaties. He shat in his shorts! Of course, I woulda too in that situation.

Ever since my neighbors (on both sides of me) daughters turned 15 (I think they're 17-19 now), I've been hearing squealing tires at least 3-4 times a week from all the young men trying to impress them. So I don't disagree with your point of view, or even the way you expressed it, you just seemed unusually aggravated, that's all I'm saying.
And on a side note: For all you young men out there thinking you're impressing the young ladies with that burn-out (and you know who you are), think again, you're not. Here's some inside info about what happens when you go around the corner and get out of sight. They're laughing at you, we the adults are laughing at you, and you really do look like a jackass. So you can go ahead and wipe that smug, "I'm the man" look off your face anytime now.
I have always saved the burnouts for rental cars, lol!
EnviroCon:
My wife thought I was stupid doing e-brake sliding in a little Escort one time until I taught her how to do it. You should have seen the giggling that woman did.
I've since matured a tad more now that I have kids. But I do try to keep the maturing to a minimum or at least evenly spread over time.
Maturity isn't what you do, it's when and where you choose to do it! I still do the same stuff I did when I was young (which yes, includes powerslides around corners on dirt roads). The difference now is that I do it in places where it's safe and endangers no one, and I don't do it to impress.
ok this went completley south....i was just wondering what it could harm and it got into something totally not about trucks...maturity...does any one want to talk about there feeling because it seems ilke some of you guys are menstrating and are really emotional about the topic...do i need to call dr phil so he can sort this out for us!!!

LOL! Sorry about that.
I say have fun with it, but only if you can afford to fix it or be without it when it breaks.
I've only had 2 catastrophic failures in vehicles. I felt crappy about it for a few minutes and then just laughed like crazy. One was my Mustang...400 hp with a stock T5...I knew it was a matter of time. The other was blowing a t-case on an 85 Suburban while pulling a trailer at 70 mph down a rural highway. That one was just plain funny to me, especially when the guy pulled up and asked me if that was my driveshaft about a 1/4 mile back.
I've done it once with my truck because I honestly had no idea I would be able to do that with limited slip and duallys. Yes, I smiled.
Done it once with the Bronco and $458 in driveshaft parts and ujoints... I just don't do it anymore. Oddly enough, the floor isn't flat anymore either.
I'd say the weakest link in a superduty would be the ujoints, or the torque converter/clutch.
