welcome to the board Sherman
i too am just starting out with the classic pickup scene. i'm sure there are many folks on here to give you their input and help better than i can. but i'll start off...i also am rebuilding a 56 f-250 and have found that most parts are the same as the f-100 but not all. the cab, hood, inner fenders, grill should all interchange. possible hard to find parts would be running boards, tailgate, and bedsides, if yours are unrepairable. the wheelbase is 118" a good source for parts would be joblot automotive out of NY, they deal with the larger truck parts. And you can buy all the replacement brake and suspension parts through them. Hope this helps.
Josh
It's nice to hear that you ar also building a '56 F250! I remember my grandpa also used to have one of those trucks back in the day. Good luck and keep it up!
Josh,
Just recieved my first shipment of parts yesterday from LMC. The advice to check with Mid Fifty F-100 Parts was a good one. They have long box running boards as well as other parts for F-250 long box trucks. Anyone know if a Motorola radio from a 1953-55 is the same as one in a 1956? Found one on ebay but can't tell if it is the same. Off and running, Dads56
Any updates with the thread starter? I would really like to see some pictures as it reminds me of some good old days with my grandpa's truck.
Sherman hasn`t back since 10-28-2003 so I doubt we`ll ever have any updates unfortunately.
As for the 53-5 radios being similar I don`t know
( some how I doubt it) but 56 would be 12 volts and the 53-5 would be 6 volt.
My 56 is a 6volt. I am going to start searching the junk yards for radio parts. Tried to get some pics posted but I know less about computers than I do renovating my pickup, I'm in trouble! I'll have to get my son to help cause I give up.
