e4od 2x4 to 4x4

where can you buy the tail housing and shaft to convert this trans to 4x4 and mate it up to a 205. i can't find in the junkyards in my area and i would be scared of dealer prices.

While you're buying parts, get a 4x4 output shaft, too. They are different than the 4x2 shaft. And you need to take EVERYTHING out of the transmission to change the shaft.

If I remember correctly, the cases are different. Yes, the output shaft is different but I am pretty sure the case is too.

Finding something used will be tough since the trannys are so sought after and even as cores they have some value. I would check the local tranny shops to see what they have lying around.

You do have to take the trans apart to replace the output shaft so you may as well rebuild it and you only need the tail housing for a 4x4 trans and the correct 4x4 output shaft to complete the swap.

I don't remember ever seeing a 205 transfer bolted to a e4od.If they didn't you would have to put a divorced case in.

All the t-cases share the same bolt pattern so they all bolt up to each trans but the shifter for the case has to be modified to work with each set up. The cases all have the 31 spline shaft. This is only for the full size trucks that had the 205, 203, 208, 1345, 1356. I think I got them all.

I have mounted a 205 to a ZF 5 speed which has the same mount as the E4 trans. I had to notch the sode of the adapter to get the 205 shifter to work and shorten the shifter rod by an inch or so.

Alright, maybe my chevy was different but I had to buy a different output shaft and adapter plate when changing from a 203 to a 205.I thought all the big three were pretty much the same.
