Took the bed off off my truck a few weeks back intending to power wash the frame. I guess you can say I took it a bit farther. Actually, I just posted a couple of pics in my gallery for the first time. I'm in the process of a rolling resto. However, it's not rolling too easily these days - without the axle.
I power washed the farme, then used 3M "Scotch-Brite Paint and Rust Stripper" wheels on a air power die grinder. These things cut through rust and paint like butter. I've gone through about 5 wheels at ~$6 per wheel.
I have one of those super messy sandblasters... sand goes everywhere, but it does good. I am gona get some of those wheels too though.... which coursness did you use?
I hav not done anything to my truck frame yet, but I have blasted another frame with it. all I have to say is wow..
Ohh yea, and you are welcome to come and do my truck too...lol
I will even make it so it rolls..lol
Rick,
All that was on the label was 3M "Scotch-Brite and Rust Stripper". No coarseness listed. Also, as much fun as I had 'stripping' my frame, I wouldn't dream of denying anyone the same fun doing theirs. So I'll have to take a pass on doing yours
I'm finishing up on sanding the areas the the wheel didn't reach and will be painting it next weekend with the frame paint from Eastwood. I ordered the rust encapsulator and semi gloss top coat. Haven't decided on spraying or brushing on, yet
