Right Oil Pan

While i'm at it, I need advice of a correct oil pan for the 54. I understand if I install an indepent front suspension, I will need a rear sump oil pan for the 302 I plan to use. Anyone have one for sale or does anyone have a parts number for the correct one. I hope I don't have to get one from the dealership! Thanks again, Paul.

I have a Camaro subframe under my 56. Have installed 351C and 460's with the front sump on them. To me, the engine will be lost down inside that cavernous engine bay if you put it in low enough to require a rear sump oilpan. But, if you want to put in a rearsump pan, try the pan and pickup tube from a 75-91 Ford van or from a 66-77 Bronco. Also, the 79-93 Mustang, 1980-up T-birds, and Crown Victorias used a dual sump oilpan. There are millions of them out there. Ford Motorsports also sells a kit (#M-6675-C302) to install a dual sump pan.

I agree with Greg as far as motor placement. You don't need a rear sump with Volare clip either. That said, a rear sump guarantees the pan will be a breeze to remove. You might have to remove a motor mount bolt for pan removal, with a front sump pan on some clips.

The 302 I just rebuilt for my '51F1 had the T-bird double sump. I found that the normal 289V8 single sump pan, from just about anything in the late 60s, was an exact replacement. I used the 289's oil pump pickup piping as well, as it matched the single sump best. It was easy pickings at U-pullit.
