250 lift

hi everyone
this is my first post here, and i just have a few questions for you guys.
i have a f250 4x4 1986 frame and running gear 1991 body, 6.9l 5 speed tranny out of a 1998 powerstroke,
im thinking about adding a 4 inch lift, but i'm not to sure what is the best route. my front and rear leaf springs are on there way out so im thinking of getting new ones re-arced 4 or 5 inches, but my front springs are the neg. arc. stlye, can i put a regular leaf pack ontop of my stock axle? say out of a 1 ton super duity?
im new to these neg arched springs so any input would help me out a lot.

Welcome to the site.
Sounds like a cool ride. One of the best upgrades to your suspension will be to ditch the neg arch springs for the desired lift. You will have to order them for an 86 truck. Keep in mind that that diesel weighs more than a gas engine, so if you order a 4" front spring, you may not get a full 4" lift. If I recall, (could be wrong) doesn't that year truck have the shackle in the very front of the spring?

i cant remember if the schackel is on the front or not, i'll have to take a look tomarrow, and thanks for the comment on the truck. Its a great truck, hauls anything i can put in it, goes anywhere i point it, and gets over 35 mpg!!! cheaper on fuel then my gf's 1999 honda civic!

actually you have the right idea. prolly the best thing to do aside fomr air baggin is go to sky manufacturing and get a shackle reversal kit. get either 3" or 5", this is lift over stock height. then go out and get a set of V-code (or U-code depending how soft you wanna go) stock leaf packs from 1999-2003 F250/350. they will add about 1-2" depending on the truck you get them out of and how hard they been used. a lot of times you can find them for nothing. i just saw a set on ebay go for $35 for a pair!

yes the crappy A-frame shackles are on the front. get the shackle reversal and you can lose the trac bar, gain a much smoother ride, and get a lil taller!

thanks guys.

Who makes the best shackle reversal kit? and can i order one online? i live it a remote area with no offroad shops near by so i will have to order one. The new springs wont be a problem i've seen lots around. And if it will smoth out the ride that will be great. the truck rides like a tank (my friends have called it shermen!!)

i know you have a computer and the internet, try google... its a really neat search function!

BTW, jsut so you know if you use superduty springs it will not be bolt in! the superduty springs are a few inches longer so you will have to cut the shackle mounts off and mount them rearward a lil bit. well well worth it!
