I won't promise it was quieter, but I wasn't 'looking' for it and still noticed it, so maybe. I'm not sure enough that I would use it as a reaon to promote them.
Hey, this is sort of on topic, sort of off (and almost a thread hijack) but how would I know if my shocks were going to need to be replaced? My truck is a 2000 and has about 115K on it, just wondering what I should look out for and check. Thanks.
There's no doubt about it if they're the stock shocks - they're shot.
A lot of people get by driving everyday on worn shocks and struts (albeit slowly), but it isn't safe. Those parts are there if you should need them, as well as for comfort, if you need to make an emergency turn, or hit something big in the road.
The old way used to be to push down hard and fast on a given corner of the vehicle, then watch for bouncing at that spring. However, while doing required state inspections for PA I have seen this method prove inconclusive, or flat out not work, for shocks / struts that were totally gone. Trying it on abigger vehicle, such as a truck, just won't work.
In reality, 60k miles on a shock/strut is more than most can handle. There is no definitive test, save for taking the unit off of the vehicle and sticking it in some tensioner that would measure it, but they don't make such a device for common garages, and one might as well change the part at that point anyway, lol.
Yup, probably have been for quite a while. My OE's had IIRC 60K on them when they came out. They wouldn't rebound without tuggin on them. They were probably gone long before that, I just didn't get the truck until then.
I already emailed them but I will ask when I hear back from them.
I can tell you that all the bushings looked exactly alike. There was no distinction between upper and lower bushings.
Maybe I installed those wrong as well! If I did I am going to find out who wrote the directions for these shocks and kill that person!!!
Im sorry that this is off topic, but is that an aftermarked front bumper on your truck? I really need a different bumper on my truck. The stock chrome one makes it look way too low to the ground, plus it looks huge compared to the rest of the truck.
i dont think its aftermarket - but it definitely has a much shorter valance on the bottome which completely eliminated the nearly useless factory FOGLIGHTS...
this how she looks now!!
drj
ps - the only thing ive found on the truck - is a sticker that said - MERIDIAN AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS...??? i dunno what that is though...but i think its a clue.
