hey everyone this is my first post here thanks for havin me
ok i got a 1991 ford F-150 extended cab its got a 5.0 v8 under the hood AC power windows...heres my problem...
when i pull my headlights on the dash lights go out and i lose my tail lights...but if i fiddle with the headlight **** i can get the dash lights to come on but i lose my headlights (only daytime runners on) but i regain my tail lights. ok first thing your all sayin headlight switch right? thats what i thought...but i was wrong i tried 3 different ones from 3 different dealers in my town all did the same thing... NOW heres where it gets weird...sometimes when i shut off the truck and remove the keys the radio stays on and will not shut off till i pull out the headlight switch and push it back in...the wipers also have this same issue.
so im wondering what in the heck is going on here...bad ground somewhere? does it need an excorsism?
any help is appriciated as i am LOST at this point...
just a thought if you have a aftermarket alarm that turns parklights on when dissarmed i had a 83 cutlass ciera about 9 years ago that when it went took out headlights tailights interior lights and fried the headlight wiring harness
I had a very similar problem with my old Bronco. Take out your brake light assemblies and check the wiring harnesses in behind, especially the grounds that go to the body if there are any coming out of those harnesses. From what you describe it really sounds like a bad ground or the internals of the switch connector are pooched as subford has suggested.
don't go to a junkyard. All fords have a bad one. Go to the dealer and pay the price they want for that plug and just do it. Happened a few times to my truck. Right in the middle of the plug is a big brown burned spot.
Kinds sounds like the problem I am having with my 89 F250 Diesel. Sometimes when I turn the headlights on I loose headlights, running lights, and power to everything in the cab. I took a volt meter and started testing things and noticed I only had 2.5 volts in the cab. I traced it all the way to a bad connection near the fusable links on the passenger side right where the big wire coming off the starter relay splits into two smaller wires.
