I just bought a 1976 Ford F100 the guy told me it had a 390 motor in it and ( after the fact) 
I checked the ID # and buy that it is a 360. How can I tell buy the engine itself. Maybe it was changed? Learning thanks

They used to put a tag on the coil mounting bolt that had on it wether it was a 390 or a 360. The only difference in the two engines is the stroke. If the tag is not there I would suggest measuring the stroke. The 390 stroke is 3.784, the 360 I don't remember, but is somewhat less.
