Howdy from Seattle! Anyway, I have a '38 Ford 1/2 ton pickup and I want to move my headlights from on the fenders to in the fenders. This looks very cool I think but I need help. I'll have to dump the old cans and buy something to adapt into the fenders. Has anyone seen this done (directions) on the web? And, what type of new lights would you suggest? I'll gladly accept all input even the 'you're crazy' type. Thanks, Dave M.
Have you checked the interchange on the 40-41 fenders?
Seems lke if you could make the newer fenders fit then you could just use the 40-41 headlights that go in those fenders. Even if they don't interchange, it would proabably be as easy to modify the fenders as it would be to cut the headlights into your fenders.
The other option would be to get the headlights and buckets out of the newer model, and weld them into your fenders, but if the curves aren't similar, its gonna be really hard to get them to look good. Form the pictures I have seen the 38 fenders look rounder in the front. so I would try the newer fenders first. It wold be really nice if you could get some really rusty one to experiment with, before you move onto some good ones.
I always liked the external headlights. It's wierd that some owners will change things that other owners really like. I'm sure lots of people disagree with the things I'm doing to my truck. In the end it's your truck, do whatever you want with it. Let the people that complain build thier own truck.
Hey Fix, thanks for the good ideas. I will look at different fenders as an option. I like the grill on your truck!! Now that would be fun to tailgate with!! How about a little flame coming out as well. Take care, Dave M.
