Hey guys I was wondering if any of you have ever replaced your front bumper? The reason I ask is that the chrome is peeling on my bumper due to a minor accident I had a while ago. The insurance is paying for it, but I was curious if I can get one at a junkyard or off one of you guys. I already checked ebay and couldn't find anything that was factory without a ding or aftermarket and all chrome. I also wanted to know if any of you happen to know how much they are going to cost me if I have to get a new one from the stealership?
I believe theres 2 different types of bumpers but dont quote me though, theres the OEM ford bumpers which are high dollar, I was told around $500, then you have some China crap thats not as strong as the OEM material but looks the same, I was quoted about $200 for that. These were both prices for new materials, also powdercoated black not chrome, but the $381 sounds pretty good. I'm in the same boat, unfortunatley I had a small collision, I was the winner with Just front bumper damage....the body shop said around $800 for everything and my deductible is only $400, but for that price I might as well do It on my own and not have the Insurance go up, or look for one of those ranch hand bumpers used...Im still undecided on whether their rigidness and tough look out weighs how bulky those things are...I dunno
Two negatives:
1. Shipping costs
2. Finding a take-off in good shape. Since our SD's front bumpers changed back in '05 (new style) the take-off's are hard to find. All '99-'04 fit...
I am in the same situation. Been searching for about a year. Found one on eBay...but what stopped me was the shipping costs. Way high!
I am thinking of going to the local salvage yards...and begin a slow search for the best front bumper I can find.
You might check with your local installer of custom front end replacements.
Personally, I've got a very nice, only-got-200-miles-on-it bumper off my '05 F350 sitting in the attic, as I installed a Ranch Hand front end replacement on the truck. I wanted to keep the factory bumpers for resale purposes... I was rather surprised when I had to fight with the shop to let me keep the things. Apparently, they normally hang onto them and sell them to body shops/etc.
Alternately, you could use the cash to put toward a replacement front end (Ranch Hand, Brush Country, etc.) on the front end, which will give you superior nose protection.
exactly what I was thinking with the superior nose protection, but those bumpers are so expensive!

A few years back when I first got my dually and found out the hard way just how much Ford and I differ on the minimum clearance the body of a 4X4 should have when off-roading (hence the lift), I think I paid around $320.00 for an OEM chrome portion of the bumper (and then another $100.00 or so for both the upper and lower valance). I bought mine from ford-parts.com, but I would imagine a site sponsor could meet or beat that price.
