gotta love it when you post a question to try and get some actual advice on something, and it just turns into two guys arguing over who has the better set up. Thanks!
There's no argument--it's a fact. The SCT tuning is infinite--The banks is limited to 6 or 7--whatever. Plus there's no tranny relearning with the SCT--plug and play. The DOWNSIDE to the SCT is that it has to be tuned--you can't just flip the switch around to whatever....but then I don't know many that need to. If you're gonna tow--tow. If you're gonna go fast----go fast. My mileage is 16-18 in town with the race file--22 on the highway if I keep my foot out of it. What more do you want???
I'm not saying the Banks is a BAD thing--don't get me wrong. They make good quality parts that make lots of people happy for the most part. It's a good package--it just won't keep up with the SCT and that's a fact!!!
The vette is one awesome machine. Like driving a sheet of plywood with shocks on it!
I had to go to the dealer to get a reprogram of the stock Ford computer. All i did was unplug the six gun and the new program was installed.
With only the intercooler on the 07 PSD, i did have warranty issues and it's being addressed with the intercooler in place, under warranty. The problem had nothing to do with the intercooler, that was pretty clear.
If the SCT can yield 22 MPG on the Freeway, Blow Away level 7 on Banks and not have to relearn shifting and still be able to do everything safely (whatever that means)..........Sounds like I bought the wrong stuff. Oh yeah, when I go into the PDA, it does allow me to change a handful of transmission shifting and defueling parameters. Banks incrementally defuels and softens shifts as the power levels increase. I really want to max some of the levels out just to see what the truck will do, but since Im not racing for pinks I try and trust the engineers that test these tunes at Banks. I Actually like the 95mph top speed limiter....cause if it would allow me to do 140...you betcha I'd do it...~Brad
that i have blown out TWO hub sleeves supplied by Banks in the intercooler kit that connect the tube from the intercooler to the turbo! The black ones.
I blew the blue one about a month ago...had my trailer loaded with 2 pallets of ceramic tile when it let go.....I losened the collar and pushed the tube back on and tightened the collar back down, and been good to go since. I've got to get get another though and one for a spare.
Don't want to hi jack the thread, But I have a question about the all of the kits.
Will you still be able to get warranty work done, I have an 06 and would love to get the banks kit as well; But worried about the "finger print" they might leave
pimt1ton,
Did you install all of the banks stuff yourself?
Don't you love beating on the corvette. I do
I had installed the Banks Six-Gun tuner and Speed Loader as well as a turbo back Monster Exhaust on my 2004. After about the fourth sensor issue (~22,000 miles) my Ford dealer started bringing up warranty issues. Dicks MacKenzie Ford in Hillsboro Oregon had one of their mechanics tell me Ford was refusing to fix additional engine related issues under warranty as long as the Banks system was installed. I don't know for certain but my hunch was the 2004 6.0L issues were to blame and not the Banks system.
You’re taking a gamble if you use engine performance equipment. If anything goes wrong with your engine, Ford can and will point the finger at your modifications. The question should be are you willing to take the risk for some mind blowing performance and potentially pay out of your own pocket for repairs?
I would install Banks equipment on my 2005 if my wife would let me.

I posted this info in another thread a few months ago when I had the blue tube blow off multiple times thus complicating my familys vacation. In my gallery there are pics of the old (Blue) turbo to CAC tube, and the New design Banks has done to strengthen this weak link. The new (black) boot also has a new CAC metal tube that goes along with it. It also comes with two new clamps. I have put it to the test, and it works....The upgrade should come with all newly purchased intercooler kits and if you bought it from Banks, they ship the parts at no charge. I originally bought my kit in May, so any kits prior to May of 2006 would probably have the old junk blue boot. ~Brad
