i read in a magazine last week that by boring out and with the right parts you can get 520hp out of a 351w.i searched the forums and found a post titled bore out a 351w 06/03/2001, but doesnt give a lot of tech info i would look in my magazine again but it went missing from the lunchroom at work, i guess some one else is looking to build a tough motor any help is appreciated. trevor
I remember seeing an article in a mag about stroking a 351w. They used a 400m crank, offset ground the journals, mopar 318 rods, and stroker pistons. It seemed like a whole lot of work and was difinetely race only. If your looking for 500+hp and some street reliability I'd go with a stroked 460. Just my $.02. Rich
What exactly are you asking for bentt? Do you want to know if it's possible or are you looking to build a stroker and need some info.?
Using a 400m crank is on way to do it but as compared to just buying a stroker kit, using a 400m crank could be more costly. I was very close to building a 393 stroker recently and did a fair amount of research on that build. I did not do it because it would have cost me about $4500-$5000 to do it RIGHT. Keep in mind that I had no parts at all to start with except an old bare block not machined.
That build would have supposedly got me around the 450 hp mark. I just could'nt afford that kind of cash. Streetability? By my definition of streetability, it is absolutely possible to build a streetable stroker. I will have one in my truck someday! Especially now that I've got the heads, intake, and carb to feed one.
I have the same question, I bought the 351W bare block used with no crank. My engine builder suggested a 383 stoker kit from Eagle, which I bought. We are now trying to determine what is the best Cam and intake set up to get the most torque and HP at daily driver speeds and RPMs. I would like to know what kind of HP I am looking at? I can't find enough info on the forums without reading through all of the suggestions. Where is the Windsor forum? is this it?
thanx matt i found the magazine i was reading its called engine masters, and it was 550hp not 520, if it is possible it will be built. will have to do more research on it and start looking for a decent 351w block. i think they used a kit from a company called coast high performance will have to read th article again
it will be going into my 64 shortbox 1/2 ton. my dad found a motor that is in pretty good shape not sure of the specifics on what the motor was in or mileage, but he thinks it has pretty low miles as it belonged to an old farm neighbor of ours
